Berkshire Pigs
The modern Berkshire breed was developed in Britain as a specialist pork pig in the middle of the nineteenth century. The basic unimproved animals from which it derived were short-legged and rather fat pigs (also known as Berkshires) which had evolved by crossing British pigs with Chinese stock introduced into Britain in the 1700s.

British Middle White
This rare breed was established in Keighley, West Yorkshire by a weaver in 1851. He crossed the then Small White (now extinct) with the more commonly known Large White; hence, we have the Middle White. The Middle White have fewer piglets in a litter than hybrid pigs, and are slower to mature. The main characteristic of this pig is the "squashed" face, which means the breed is less inclined to root than longer-snouted breeds.
