Chinese Painted Quail
The Chinese Painted Quail is a third of the size of the Japanese Quail. Although kept for egg production in some countries, here in England they are usually kept as aviary birds, hoovering up all the spilled bird seeds on the bottom of the enclosure.

Japanese Quail
Quails mature quickly, within five weeks, they reach adulthood and within seven weeks the females start laying the first of many eggs. Hens have been recorded to lay more than 200 eggs a year. They live for only two years. The males make a funny noise which sounds a bit like a magpie.
