Volunteering

Would you like to be more involved in your local community?

Can you spare an afternoon or one or two days a week?

If so you may be interested in volunteering at Freightliners City Farm in Islington. Volunteering is open to anyone over the age of 12 years.

Qualification
You do not need to have any specific skills as all training is provided, however an interest in any of the following would be beneficial: administration, animals, gardening, bee keeping, tropical plants, carpentry, DIY, mural painting, spinning and weaving.

Opportunities
There is also the opportunity to gain accredited qualifications in Animal Care, Health and Safety and Horticulture at no cost. We hoping to extend these qualifications to include bee keeping in the near future so watch this space!

Activities

Animal Care
Feeding, cleaning and milking are some of the daily tasks performed by volunteers looking after the Farms wide selection of animals. regular volunteers will also get the chance to attend shows, visit other city farms, and groom and show animals. There will also be an opportunity for volunteers to join the Farms accredited animal care training programme.

Gardening
The farm currently has several garden areas including a Kitchen, Ornamental and Vegetable garden. We are always looking for volunteers to help to help keep our gardens looking good and producing vegetables & fruit. Whether you've been gardening for years or can't tell a weed from a flower we would like to hear from you. Regular volunteers will get a chance to join in our accredited horticulture training scheme.

Café Work
Our café will be open from Wednesday to Sunday - 11am to 4pm.

Education Work
The farm has over 200 Farm tours a year plus running an Under 4's session. We are looking for enthusiastic people who would enjoy helping to run these sessions.
During school holidays help is required with Play schemes and other special children's events.
N.B. Volunteers are sometimes asked for personal information and police checks are required by law for those working with children. (Freightliners is registered with the Children's Act)

Farm Events
The Farm runs several events throughout the year including our Open Day and City Farms Festival. We are looking for enthusiastic people to help run activities, man stalls etc... on the day, please see our calendar of events.

Management Committee Members
The Farm is run by a Voluntary Management Committee. This consists of a group of local people who meet bimonthly to discuss issues concerning the Farm. They are responsible for producing business and strategic plans for the farm, as well as finances and policies. If you think you have something to contribute to this team of dedicated Farm supporters, the Farm is always looking for more people to join the team.
