A taste of urban farming business

Part of Islington Council's  Summerversity and Launchpad Programmes.  For Young people aged 13 upwards. Learn skills in farm and pet animal care, food growing and production, cooking, crafts, café service and barista-ing. Put your skills to the test serving real customers in ‘Summerversity does the Strawbale Café’ and run your own farm shop.

Islington Young People Discover and Share - Wool and Play Dough

AM  Learn about simple activities which explore materials through crafts and play.  Make your own piece of felt from sheep's wool and play dough using flour, salt and oil.

PM  Share the skills you have learned with visiting families and build skills and experience in teaching and leadership to add to your cv and use in the future.

Cow Vs Pig 2018

Cow Vs Pig 2018

Take part in our annual sponsored 5K fun run.  Each year at 11am a herd of human cows and pigs sets off from Paradise Park around the streets of Islington, down Upper Street and returns home to the farm to raise funds.  This year Cow vs Pig is one of our #5waystohelp with our fundraising campaign aiming to raise £30,000 to keep the farm going and more for essential improvements.  We're looking for individuals and teams from local businesses and organisations to sign up and get sponsored to help smash our target.  Onsies are provided as is a special celebration of the return of the animals to the yard kindly supported by Udderlicious, Martyns of Muswell Hill and the farms cake bakers.

Young people aged 13 years upwards come along and help to teach and demonstrate skills in beeswax candle making, felt making and wool work.  It will help if you have already taken part in summerversity or discover crafts activities on the farm or volunteered but its not essential we'll show you how and then you can get stuck in and help others learn too.

This is part of Islington councils Recreation and Adventure Programme for Young People.

No worries if you're under 13 Children, families and anyone wanting to have a go can drop in from 2pm-4pm and make your own piece of felt or candle.

Drop in session for Islington young people aged 13-25 years learn to make beeswax candles and felt from sheeps wool and have a go at spinning yarn from the fleeces of our sheep.  You'll be able to take away the objects you have created and stay on to use the skills and techniques you have learned to demonstrate and share with visiting families in the afternoon.

Stalls, Egg Hunt*, Tombola, Easter Bonnet Parade at 3pm (make one at the Farm or use your own), Drama Workshops with Pauline Quirke Academy (3.10-3.30pm 4 – 8 year olds, 3.35-3.55pm 9 – 12 year olds) , Vegetarian Food and lots more!

Islington Young People Discover - The Royal Veterinary College

A chance for Islington young people to discover the campuses and courses run by the Royal Veterinary College.  The Farm Manager will accompany young people to visit the RVC open day travelling to both the Hawkshead Campus at Potters Bar and the Camden Campus on Royal College Street.  This is a chance for young people interested in courses including Veterinary Science, Veterinary Nursing, Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Physiotherapy to visit the campuses and find out more.  These courses are often heavily over subscribed and its important to find out as much as you can about how to go about applying as soon as possible if you are interested.  If you are planning on applying for veterinary medicine a visit to the Universities is a must and there are few opportunities.  The colleges themselves are very interesting places so definitely worth a visit for anyone with an interest in animal or medical science.

Islington Young People Discover - Animal Care

A day of animals for Islington Young People.  Be a farmer for a day help out with the routine animal care tasks like feeding and mucking out.  Meet our cows, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits and guinea pigs and learn about the needs of these domestic animals.  Have a go at goat training, groom the rabbits and set up some activity toys for the chickens.

Islington Young People Discover - Trent Country Park and Enfield Wildlife Rescue

A day trip for Islington young people to discover the countryside that's only 20 minutes away on the Piccadilly line.  We'll be exploring the meadows and woodlands of Trent Country Park and visiting the wildlife rescue centre based in the park to find out more about their work and meet some of the native and domestic rescue animals.
